A REQUIEM PRAYER FOR THE SLAIN INNOCENTS OF THE NEW ORLEANS TERROR ATTACK
Let us pray!
O God of spirits and of all flesh, who has trampled down death and abolished the power of the devil, granting life to Thy world: Give rest, O Lord, to the souls of Thy departed servants, the eighteen innocents slain in the terror of New Orleans, in a place of light, a place of green pasture, a place of refreshment, whence all pain, sorrow, and sighing have fled away.
Grant them, O Lord, eternal rest,
And may perpetual light shine upon them.
Thou who art the Resurrection, the Life, and the Repose of Thy servants, remember, O Christ our God, their purity of heart and the injustice of their end, and receive them into the bosom of Abraham, numbering them among the righteous and the saints, who from ages past have pleased Thee.
Eternal Father, may their prayers ascend to Thee,
And may they be remembered forever before Thy holy altar.
Have mercy, O Merciful One, upon their families and all who mourn, granting them comfort and healing by the tender compassion of Thy Holy Spirit. O Christ, our Resurrection and our Life, in Thy love for mankind, forgive every transgression, voluntary and involuntary, committed by these Thy children, who now rest in Thee.
In union with the choirs of angels and all Thy saints, we cry out:
Holy God, Holy Mighty, Holy Immortal, have mercy on us.
With our hearts lifted in hope, we pray:
Memory eternal! Memory eternal! Memory eternal!
For Thou art the Resurrection and the Life of Thy servants, O Christ our God, and to Thee we ascribe glory, together with Thy Father, who is from everlasting, and Thine all-holy, good, and life-giving Spirit, now and ever, and unto the ages of ages. Amen.
Prayer by Bp. Joseph
