FEAST OF ALL SAINTS OF KYIV (JULY 28TH)

All of the Saints, Martyrs, Ascetics and Holy Bishops of Kyiv

Edited and Compiled by Bp. Joseph (Ancient Church of the West

On Sunday, July 28th, we celebrate an irreducible and centrally important feast within our Church, the Feast of All the Saints of Kyiv. We remember their love for Christ, their missionary work, and their holy sacrifice, as they picked up their crosses and followed our Lord and Savior! May you be blessed as you remember their holy lives and profound contributions! Blessed feast!

Despite the ancient origins of the Kyiv Metropolia, which stands as the oldest and first founded in ancient Rus', the celebration of the Great Feast of All Saints of Kyiv is a relatively recent addition. Established by the Holy Synod of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in 2011, this feast day, observed on July 28th in the new calendar style, is intentionally aligned with the commemoration of Saint Vladimir the Great, the Equal-to-the-Apostles and Baptizer of Rus'.

Blessed feast of Saint Volodimir, Equal to the Apostles, Enlightener of Ukraine, Emperor of the Ancient Rus, Hero of the Orthodox Faith!

In 2013, the Holy Apostle Andrew, revered for his missionary endeavors believed to have touched the very soil of Kyiv, was also honored in this sacred assembly of saints. His inclusion further enriches the festal celebration, connecting the deep spiritual legacy of Kyiv with the apostolic mission.

The Great Feast of All Saints of Kyiv celebrates a luminous array of holy figures whose lives exemplified holiness, love, selflessness, and unwavering dedication to the Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. Their contributions resonate far beyond the borders of Ukraine, offering a wellspring of inspiration and spiritual strength to all Orthodox Christendom. Each saint and martyr remembered on this day is a testament to the enduring and vibrant faith that has flourished in the land of Kyiv, illuminating the path of righteousness for countless souls through the ages.

Troparion of All Saints of Kyiv (Tone 4)

Rejoice, O radiant assembly of Kyiv's holy ones,
Ye who shone with the light of Christ in the land of Rus’,
Through your struggles and ascetic labors,
Ye have adorned the Church with crowns of glory,
O righteous martyrs and venerable saints,
Intercede with the Lord for us,
That He may grant peace and great mercy to our souls.

Apolytikion of All Saints of Kyiv (Tone 4)

O illustrious saints who glorified Christ in Kyiv,
By your holy lives and martyrdoms,
Ye have illumined the world with the light of Orthodoxy,
O steadfast pillars of the Church,
Fervently entreat the Lord to save our souls,
And grant us the grace to follow in your footsteps,
That we may inherit the eternal Kingdom.

COLLECT

(Western Collect for the Feast of All Saints of Kyiv)

Almighty God, who didst inspire the holy martyrs and saints of Kyiv with the light of thy truth and the courage to endure, grant, we beseech thee, that we who now commemorate their illustrious examples may be inspired by their love and dedication to thy Gospel. May their intercessions strengthen us in our pilgrimage, that we too may shine as lights in the world and bring glory to thy Holy Name. Through Jesus Christ our Lord, who liveth and reigneth with thee and the Holy Ghost, ever one God, world without end. Amen.
