IN PRAISE OF THE DIVINE LITURGY OF ST. JAMES

The Officiant in the Divine Liturgy of St. James, Vested in the Eucharistic Cope, the Vestment of Our Holy Patrimony, Symbolizing the Lord's Supper Enacted "In Persona Christi" by the Priest in Apostolic Succession

THE LITURGY ACCORDING TO OUR SCOTTISH FATHERS AMONG THE SAINTS, RADIANT IN SCRIPTURE, FULL OF LOVE, TRUTH, BEAUTY, AND THE ANCIENT FAITH!

May the Lord, who is wondrous in His saints, preserve our holy patrimony in the midst of persecution, false doctrine, heresies, and apostasies. May He cause the lamp of our Ancient Church and the splendor of the holy Faith to shine as the stars of heaven for ever and ever.

May the Most Holy Theotokos shelter us beneath her protecting veil; and may the prayers of the saints of our ancient lands -

St. Alban the Protomartyr of Britain; St. Joseph of Arimathea, the first herald of the Gospel to our shores; St. Aristobulus of Britannia, disciple of the Apostles; St. Patrick the Enlightener of the Irish; St. Bridget of Kildare, flame of holy charity; St. Columba of Iona; St. Aidan of Lindisfarne; St. Hilda of Whitby; St. Ninian of Whithorn; St. Samson of Dol; St. Kentigern Mungo of Glasgow; St. Cuthbert of Farne; St. Oswald the King and Martyr; St. Ceolwulf the Confessor; St. Wilfrid of York; St. Chad of Lichfield; St. Theodore of Tarsus, Archbishop of the English; St. Augustine of Canterbury; St. Felix of Dunwich; St. Birinus the Apostle of Wessex; St. Erconwald of London; St. Mildred of Thanet; St. Frideswide of Oxford; St. Etheldreda of Ely; St. Edmund the Martyr; St. Swithun of Winchester; St. Dunstan of Canterbury; St. David of Wales; St. Illtud the Teacher of Saints; St. Germanus of Auxerre who defended the Faith in Britain; St. Columbanus the Pilgrim of Christ; St. Gall of Switzerland; St. Willibrord the Apostle to the Frisians; St. Boniface the Apostle of Germany; St. Lioba, St. Walburga, and the holy English nuns who carried the light of Christ to the Germanic peoples; St. Benedict of Nursia, Father of Western monasticism; St. Gregory the Great who sent Augustine; and all the venerable hierarchs, confessors, martyrs, monks, virgins, and faithful of the Ancient Church of the West - intercede for us and guide us in the way of the Cross that leads to life everlasting.

Through their prayers may the Divine Liturgy of St. James, once cherished by our Celtic and Scottish fathers, continue to pour forth the grace of Christ into His Church, and may our worship ever be radiant in Scripture and aflame with love, truth, beauty, and the unbroken Apostolic Faith.

COLLECT

O ALMIGHTY and Everlasting God, who didst raise up in these ancient and holy lands a noble company of saints, confessors, and martyrs, and through their witness didst cause the light of the Gospel to shine forth in purity and truth: Preserve, we beseech thee, the holy patrimony committed unto us; defend thy Church from false doctrine, heresy, and apostasy; and grant that, through the prayers of thy blessed Saints and under the sheltering veil of the most holy Mother of God, we may so worship thee in the beauty of holiness, that the lamp of faith may ever burn brightly, and thy praise be radiant in Scripture, aflame with love, and steadfast in the Apostolic Tradition; through Jesus Christ thy Son our Lord, who liveth and reigneth with thee and the Holy Ghost, ever one God, world without end. Amen.
