Churches stand empty around the Western World, a testament to a culture losing faith |
By Bp. Joseph (Ancient Church of the West)
We live in a “post-Christian” culture where it is more likely to be unchurched than it is to be churched! Here is a shocking study that highlights the problem in the American context. We live in a “post-Christian” culture where it is more likely to be unchurched than churched! This is a serious call to repentance for all of us “churchy” people, many of whom like to hang out in our ghettos and criticize those who don’t come banging down our doors as somehow immoral or deficient.
We need to wake up and see that the reason people don’t want to become Christian is because of the very bad way we often treat people, less than precious, less than living icons of our Lord and Creator.
Whenever doctrine prompts us to hate and attack people, we know it is not of God, because He is Light, Love, and Truth, and in Him there is no hate, darkness, or deceit.
When unchurched people see these evil things in our midst, which are not and could never be of God, they doubt the sincerity of the Church and rightfully ascertain that we aren’t worshipping Him but are trying to hold ourselves up for worship. We are trying to make ourselves into false idols and put them up for veneration in the midst of the congregation!
There is nothing more disgusting in the world than fragile egos of fallen and unholy men masquerading as gods. This is literally what Satan tries to do!
This is why many leave the Church. If we return to loving and serving God, with all our hearts, minds, souls, and strength, then people will naturally return!
“If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their [church].” (2 Chronicles 7:14 KJV)
