ST. EGBERT OF LINDISFARNE (MAY 6TH)
Today, May 6th, we celebrate St. Egbert of Lindisfarne, disciple of St. Aidan, missionary bishop of Lindisfarne to Northern England for 11 years, and a great 7th Century witness to the spread of Celtic Christianity in Northumbria. He was lauded by the Venerable Bede for his piety and monasticism, and even as bishop, he practiced the life of a hermit for at least 80 days a year, during Advent and Lent. He is a true example of the missionary fervor and the beauty that typifies the Celtic Christian Tradition undergirding our English Patrimony!
St. Egbert, pray for us!
